ABOUT THE O R I G I N A L M I X E D M E D I A PAINTINGS
I began using mixed media when I discovered a set of conte
crayons among my art supplies in 2014.
What an amazing surprise!
Unlike soft pastels, conte crayons have oil as one of the
components which make up the smaller sized stick. They are amazingly vibrant
crayons and they led me to consider moving away from the safe world of pastel
painting.
I called these paintings “My Splash of Color” works. As you can see from the gallery, they include
colors that do not happen naturally in nature. These colorful alternative
versions of reality have given me a freedom and allowed me to escape my
self-imposed rules about what wildlife should look like.
Ironically, my very first mixed media painting, “Who’s Your Daddy?” was selected to be featured in two art publications. The first was “Incite II” the best of Mixed Media and more recently in North Light Books, “Art Journey ANIMALS: A Collection of Inspiring Contemporary Masterworks.”
The originals of these pieces are now sold. However, you can still obtain these pieces as Limited Edition Giclee prints on paper or canvas.
